FlickTide

the whole loop

How FlickTide works

Start with a quick taste scan, or jump straight into a test. Everything else grows from your choices.

  1. Step 1 · optional but great

    The taste scan

Pick the areas you watch: movies, shows, animation, anime, documentaries. Then rate titles one at a time. Liked it, it was okay, not for me, or haven't seen it.

“Haven't seen” is a real answer, not a failure. It teaches FlickTide what to show you, and those exact titles stay out of your battles.

The scan runs to 100 titles; you can finish any time after 40. Retake it whenever you like, always with fresh titles.

    Start the scan
  2. Step 2

    Top tests

Choose a test and a size: Top 5, 10, or 25. Two titles face off at a time, and you simply pick the one you love more.

If you haven't seen something, say so. It will not hurt your result, and it never counts against your progress. Skip a pair, call one too close, save a wildcard you refuse to lose. All of it is honest input.

Depth is your choice: Quick is about 30 real choices, Balanced about 50, Deep about 80, Director's Cut over a hundred.

  3. Step 3

    Final Tune

When your ranking is nearly ready, FlickTide runs a short final round: your likely top titles face each other directly.

A few last choices settle the order, so number three earned it against number two, not just against the field.

  4. Step 4

    Your result

Your Tide: a ranked list that reads like a mirror, not a score. Losses never eliminate a favorite along the way.

Ask for a written taste profile when you want it: your archetype, your patterns, the story of how your favorites won. It is generated once and kept.

Your result stays private unless you choose to share it. One click makes an unlisted link; stop sharing any time.

  5. Step 5

    More to watch

Recommendations come from your choices and the local catalog: safe next watches, hidden gems from your taste zone, and a step outside it.

Titles you marked Haven't Seen can appear here on purpose. Unseen is not a dislike; sometimes it is exactly what to watch next.

  6. Keep building

    Collections and import

Turn results into collections or build them by hand. Comfort watches, rainy night films, the shows you push on everyone.

Already keep lists on Letterboxd or IMDb? Upload the export and FlickTide matches it against its own catalog. You review every match before anything is created, and the file itself is never stored.

    Import a collection
  7. When you're ready

    A public taste profile

Everything starts private. If you want a taste home, pick a username and make your profile public. It shows only the results and collections you have separately made public.

Follow profiles whose taste you trust, and find people with a similar Tide. No feeds, no noise.

How choices work

Pick a side
A real vote. It moves your ranking.
Too close to call
Both stay in, and the close call itself tells us something.
Wildcard
Saves a title you love straight into your top, even if it keeps losing.
Haven't seen
No penalty, no progress used. A fresh title steps in.
Haven't seen both
Same idea, and both titles sit the rest out.

Passes on this matchup without touching your ranking.

Private by default. Shareable by choice. Public by intention.
